The shopping centre is located close to Motherwell railway station, with access to services on routes including the West Coast Main Line, East Coast Main Line, Cross Country and Argyle Line providing local and longer-distance services, from Glasgow, Edinburgh, stretching out to as far as London. It also has numerous bus stops that are spread around the centre, as well as a taxi rank[3].
In 2005, the ASDA store in the centre closed, and moved to a new site roughly 100 metres away. The centre's owners submitted plans in 2007 to convert the store into six new units, with a new "entrance feature and additional parking.[2] The vacant store had been converted into Market World, a store made up of small independent outlets, originally on the former site of the Scotmid store but moved 2 stores to the left when the site was converted into a Wilkinson store, the first of its type in central Scotland.[4]. Market World officlally closed in December 2009 and refurbishment of the unit is underway, with a B & M Bargains store taking over half of the site. The Credit Crunch has had a negative impact on the centre, as a number of stores have closed. However, in recent times, there has been a recovery, and new stores have moved into the vacant slots.
There has also been recent speculation that a bus station could be built next to the centre, on the site of the former Dalziel Workspace Building.[5]
